چکیده

Some connections between quantum mechanics and classical physics are explored. The Planck-Einstein and De Broglie relations, the wavefunction and its probabilistic interpretation, the Canonical Commutation Relations and the Maxwell– Lorentz Equation may be understood in a simple way by comparing classical elec-tromagnetism and the photonic description of light provided by classical relativistic kinematics. The method used may be described as 'inverse correspondence' since quantum phenomena become apparent on considering the low photon number density limit of classical electromagnetism. Generalisation to massive particles leads to the Klein–Gordon and Schrödinger Equations. The difference between the quantum wavefunction of the photon and a classical electromagnetic wave is discussed in some detail.

We discuss the seminal article in which Le Bellac and Lévy-Leblond have identified two Galilean limits of electromagnetism [1], and its modern implications. Recent works have shed a new light on the choice of gauge conditions in classical electromagnetism. We discuss various applications and experiments, such as in quantum mechanics, superconductivity, electrodynamics of continuous media, etc. ...

Non-relativistic quantum mechanics for a free particle is shown to emerge from classical mechanics through the requirement of an invariance principle under transformations that preserve the Heisenberg position-momentum inequality. These transformations acting on the position and momentum uncertainties are induced by isotropic space dilatations. This invariance imposes a change in the laws of cl...

We consider the relativistic quantum mechanics of a two interacting fermions system. We first present a covariant formulation of the kinematics of the problem and give a short outline of the classical results. We then quantize the system with a general interaction potential and deduce the explicit equations in a spherical basis. The case of the Coulomb interaction is studied in detail by numeri...

The phenomenology of quantum systems in curved space-times is among the most fascinating fields of physics, allowing –often at the gedankenexperiment level– constraints on tentative theories of quantum gravity. Determining the dynamics of fields in curved backgrounds remains however a complicated task because of the highly intricate partial differential equations involved, especially when the s...

Quantum Mechanical Clock and Classical Relativistic Clock

A cyclic nature of quantum mechanical clock is discussed as “quantization of time.” Quantum mechanical clock is seen to be equivalent to the relativistic classical clock. John von Neumann proposed a problem [1] in 1932 in the footnote on page 6 of the English translation [2] of his book “Die Mathematische Grundlagen der Quantenmechanik,” Springer-Verlag, Berlin: – in all attempts to develop a g...
